Robert W. Tull, Jr. is founder, president, and CEO of Tull Financial Group, Inc., located in Chesapeake, Virginia. With more than 35 years of financial planning experience in the Hampton Roads community, he focuses on the areas of investment management, retirement planning, and estate planning. He also provides highly individualized personal and business advisory services.

Robin, as most know him, entered the financial planning profession after receiving a Master of Business Administration with a concentration in Finance from The University of Houston. While well-known locally as knowledgeable in financial matters, he has been recognized nationally as a former “Ask the Expert” on Quicken.com’s retirement website. Robin has also contributed to The New York Times, USA Today, The Wall Street Journal, Reader’s Digest, CNNfn, SmartMoney Interactive, CBN NewsWatch, and Financial Planning magazine.

He has been a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ professional for over 30 years, having served on the national board of directors for the Institute of Certified Financial Planners (ICFP) in Denver, Colorado (1996-1998) and as past president of the local Hampton Roads chapter. He is a member of the Financial Planning Association (FPA) and the National Association of Personal Financial Advisors (NAPFA), which requires its members to sign a Fiduciary Oath.

Robin is extremely active in his community. His passion to help people improve their lives through sound financial planning crosses over into the community he fervently serves. Robin has been a Rotarian for more than 30 years, having served as past president of the Rotary Club of Chesapeake. In 2014, Robin was appointed by the City of Chesapeake to the Chesapeake Hospital Authority, where he served in many capacities for eight years including chairman of the board. In addition, he served on the Chesapeake Regional Health Foundation Board, the Old Point National Bank Regional Advisory Board, and the Chesapeake Other Post-Employment Benefits (OPEB) Finance Board. In 2019, Robin was given the distinguished honor of being named First Citizen of Chesapeake.

Education is very important to Robin, having served as past chairman of the Atlantic Shores Christian School Board and as a member of the Alumni Board of Oral Roberts University. In 2018, Robin was selected as a trustee to serve his alma mater, Oral Roberts University.

He and his wife, Cathy, attend Riverbend Church in Suffolk, Virginia. They have four children — Andrew, Courtnay, Philip, and Victoria — and are proud grandparents to Aurora, Theodore, Augustine and Lucia.

Amy is a combination of capability, caring, and sunny disposition that is instrumental in ensuring that our clients’ needs are met. Overseeing our Client Services Department, Amy works closely with Robin to maintain the high standard of service and proactivity that we strive to deliver to each client.

With almost 20 years of experience in financial services, she has a Certificate in Financial Planning and holds the Registered Financial Consultant (RFC)® designation. As our Social Security and Medicare specialist, she has earned the National Social Security Advisor (NSSA) Certificate.

Amy is also one of the first Certified Senior Advisors (CSA)® in the Hampton Roads area, and she’s passionate about helping people age gracefully and transition through their later years as smoothly as possible. She also has extensive experience in assisting adults and children with special needs, helping them navigate government programs and planning for their financial future.

Amy enjoys spending time with her grandsons and helping others. She can often be found outside during nice weather, or inside cooking, watching movies, or reading. After relocating here from upstate New York, she appreciates the warmer weather – we are so thankful she made the trip!

Philip L. Tull, CFP®

Phil is passionate about the impact that personal finance can have through serving individuals and families. As a Wealth Advisor, Phil guides clients through creating detailed financial plans, navigating budgets, maximizing employee benefits, and providing investment research and portfolio support. As Director of Business Development, Phil coordinates growth opportunities and community involvement for the firm. He is a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ professional, holds the Series 65 license and serves as a member of our Investment Committee. He also serves on the board of the Hampton Roads Leadership Prayer Breakfast. These are just a few of the skills he performs as he assists our clients with thoughtfulness and detail.

Phil earned his master’s degree in Financial Planning from Kansas State University, where he also received his Personal Financial Planning Certificate. He obtained his bachelor’s degree in Business Finance from Southeastern University, where he also excelled as a collegiate athlete.

Phil and his wife, Janaé, enjoy spending time outdoors, playing sports, traveling, and are passionate about serving their church and community.

Drew Overton, CFP®

Drew Overton

Drew joined the team at Tull Financial Group in August 2019. Since then, Drew’s passion for helping people through financial planning continues to positively impact our clients and our team.

As a Wealth Advisor, Drew guides clients through tax projections, financial plans, investment allocation questions, and account and money management needs. Drew is also a member of our Investment Committee and works to provide investment research and insight during our monthly Investment Committee meetings.

Drew received his bachelor’s degrees in Finance and Management from Virginia Tech in December 2017, is a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ professional, and holds his Series 65 license. In 2024, Drew was appointed to serve on the Chesapeake Other Post Employment Benefits (OPEB) Finance Board, which provides unique insight into public sector retirement benefits as well as investments. Drew is currently working towards his Master of Science in Accounting at Old Dominion University with an emphasis on income taxation.

Outside of the office, Drew, his wife, Melissa – an administrator in Housing and Residence Life at Old Dominion University – their daughter, Charlotte, and their son, James, live in the South Norfolk area and attend River Oak Church. They enjoy traveling to visit family and friends, trying new restaurants around town, and going to the beach with their dog, Ruby.

Ashley Albertson, FPQP™

Ashley Albertson, Client Services Manager

Ashley began with Tull Financial Group in 2020 as the Executive Assistant to the CEO and Front Stage Administration; she now works closely with the advisory team as a Client Services Manager. In 2022, she received her Financial Paraplanner Qualified Professional (FPQP)™ designation through Kaplan Financial Education’s paraplanner curriculum, gaining further knowledge and qualifications to better serve our clients.

In her spare time Ashley can be found chasing around her son, playing co-ed softball, or spending quality time with her [high school sweetheart] husband and family. Raised in Deep Creek and a member of the United Methodist Church, she strives to do her part in helping her community. We enjoy having her effervescent personality in the office and know our clients will, too.

Kara Leigh Sakis

Kara-Leigh joined Tull Financial Group in 2023 as a Client Service Associate. She brings high-level support to the advisory team after working as an executive assistant for over a decade in various sectors.

Kara-Leigh gained her M.A. in Organizational Leadership with a concentration in Leadership Coaching and Mentoring from Regent University. She received her B.A. in Interdisciplinary Studies and English from Southeastern University.

The beach is Kara-Leigh’s “happy place,” and she loves living in a coastal community. She is a volunteer worship leader at her church and also enjoys helping out local nonprofits in her spare time.

Vernichel Landis

Vernichel Landis, Investment Associate

Vernichel joined Tull Financial Group in March 2023 as an Investment Associate. After several years of working with private market institutional investors, she values this opportunity to apply her capabilities towards helping clients on the personal side of financial and retirement planning. With an eye for detail and appreciation for research, Vernichel assists with all aspects of investment operations. She is a member of our Investment Committee and helps to provide investment research and analysis to better inform our insights and serve our clients.

Vernichel earned a Master in Business Administration from Colorado State University, where she also received a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a minor in Marketing.

Spending time with her family is what makes Vernichel smile. She is also an avid reader, outdoor enthusiast, and volunteers in her church and community.

Elisabeth Engel, Office Coordinator & Executive Assistant to the CEO

Elisabeth joined Tull Financial Group in August 2023 as Office Coordinator and Executive Assistant to the CEO. She ensures the office flows smoothly by scheduling and preparing for client meetings and providing administrative support to our CEO and Wealth Advisors. Elisabeth serves as your friendly first point of contact, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere to anyone who walks through the door.

Elisabeth received her Master of Public Administration from Regent University in 2024, where she also obtained her Bachelor of Arts in History. In her spare time, Elisabeth enjoys spending time with friends, going to see musicals, and recording her podcast, Recall the Spruce Sisters. Growing up, Elisabeth fell in love with exploring areas outside of her home in Missouri. Now she travels as much as she can and is always looking for new destination recommendations.
